Plot summary

Transformers: The Last Knight begins with a flashback to the Dark Ages, when King Arthur and his knights are fighting a losing battle against the Saxons. Arthur's wizard Merlin seeks the help of a group of Transformers called the Knights of Iacon, who give him a powerful staff that can control a giant dragon Transformer called Dragonstorm. With their help, Arthur defeats the Saxons and saves Britain.

In the present day, humans and Transformers are at war, and Optimus Prime has left Earth to find his home planet Cybertron. He discovers that Cybertron is dying and that he is responsible for its destruction. He meets his creator Quintessa, who brainwashes him into becoming her servant Nemesis Prime. She tells him that he must find Merlin's staff on Earth, which can restore Cybertron by draining Earth's energy core. Earth is revealed to be Unicron, an ancient enemy of Cybertron.

Meanwhile, Cade Yeager, a human ally of the Autobots, rescues a group of kids from a war zone in Chicago. He finds a talisman that belongs to one of the Knights of Iacon. He is pursued by both the TRF (Transformers Reaction Force), a paramilitary group that hunts down all Transformers regardless of their allegiance; and Megatron , the leader of the Decepticons, who has negotiated with the TRF to release some of his comrades in exchange for his help in finding the staff. Cade escapes with the help of Bumblebee, an Autobot scout and his best friend; Hound, an Autobot commando; Drift, an Autobot samurai; Crosshairs, an Autobot paratrooper; and Sqweeks, a small Autobot scavenger. He is also contacted by Sir Edmund Burton, an English lord and the last living member of the Witwiccan order, a secret society that has protected the secret history of Transformers on Earth for centuries. Burton tells Cade that he is the last knight of Iacon and that he must find Merlin's staff before Quintessa does. Cade travels to England with Bumblebee and meets Burton, who introduces him to Viviane Wembly, an Oxford professor of history and a descendant of Merlin. She is the only one who can wield the staff, as it is genetically coded to her bloodline. Burton also reveals that he has been keeping several Transformers hidden in his estate, including Hot Rod, a French-accented Autobot spy; Cogman, a sociopathic human-sized Transformer butler; and the Knights of Iacon themselves, who are in a dormant state. He also shows them a secret chamber where he keeps a collection of historical artifacts related to Transformers, such as the sword Excalibur and the watch that killed Hitler. Burton, Cade, Viviane, and the Autobots follow clues left by the Witwiccans to locate the staff. They discover that it is hidden inside a Cybertronian spacecraft that crashed under the sea during Arthur's time. They use a submarine Transformer called Nitro Zeus to reach the ship, where they are attacked by Megatron and his Decepticons. They manage to retrieve the staff, but they are betrayed by one of the TRF soldiers, who reveals himself to be a Transformer named Infernocus, working for Quintessa. He kills Burton and steals the staff. Meanwhile, Optimus Prime arrives on Earth and confronts his former allies. He fights Bumblebee and nearly kills him, but Bumblebee manages to break Quintessa's spell by speaking in his own voice for the first time. Optimus regains his senses and apologizes to Bumblebee. He then joins forces with him and the other Autobots to stop Quintessa from using the staff to activate a machine that will drain Earth's energy core and revive Cybertron. They are aided by the Knights of Iacon, who recognize Optimus as their true leader and combine into Dragonstorm. A massive battle ensues between the Autobots and their human allies on one side, and Quintessa, Megatron, and their minions on the other. The battle takes place near Stonehenge, where the machine is located. The Autobots manage to destroy the machine and save Earth from destruction, but Quintessa escapes with a fragment of the staff. She disguises herself as a human woman and approaches Viviane, telling her that Unicron must be destroyed. The film ends with Optimus Prime sending a message to all surviving Transformers in space, inviting them to come home to Earth, which he declares as their new home. He also warns them that they must be ready to face Quintessa and Unicron in the future. Reviews and ratings
